Opening Ceremony
On the afternoon of April 18th, applause filled the CBG23W auditorium as the 2025 International Chinese Day at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University grandly kicked off in the rhythms of East-West fusion.
The international students from XJTLU ignited the atmosphere with an energetic martial arts performance, showcasing the balance of strength and gentleness in Chinese Kung Fu as they soared and maneuvered. Elegant Chinese dancers interpreted Eastern tales, their flowing sleeves painting a dynamic scroll of millennia-old civilization. The Tai Chi formation initiated with graceful movements, embodying the harmony of yin and yang, bringing a unique charm. At the moment the Intangible Cultural Heritage Center was inaugurated, flame of Chinese cultural genes officially took root in this international campus.
This grand opening ceremony resonating with both tradition and modernity not only transformed martial arts and Tai Chi into a universal language but also, through engaging cultural dialogue, laid down a vivid footnote for the splendid chapters of the subsequent series of events.
Club Booth
The art corridor on the G floor of the center transformed into a cultural magnet, with over a dozen clubs creatively constructing a three-dimensional cultural landscape. The fragrance of ink wafted from the calligraphy and painting club; the guzheng society’s strings resonated with clear melodies, as the 21 strings flowed with rhythms from a thousand years; the burnt foil paintings in the clothing workshop drew people’s attention. The powerful wind from the martial arts club interwove with the witty quips of the crosstalk club, while the contemplation of the chess club in front of the chessboard contrasted with the ancient style captured by the photography club. When the traditional Chinese music ensemble’s tunes met the country-style segments from the musical theater club, and when the classical incense from the butterfly transformation club collided with modern makeup artistry, this youthful gathering that transcended time and space turned every inch of the exhibition into a micro theater of cultural dialogue, expressing contemporary chapters of cultural inheritance through youthful creativity.
Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Courses
In the CBG13W auditorium, four intangible cultural heritage courses illuminated the light of culture with craftsmanship and inheritance. Woodblock New Year paintings printed with millennia of folk customs depicted auspicious wishes through bold lines; delicate egg carvings revealed a world within their small scale, with fragile eggshells intricately etched by artisans; blue and white printed fabrics evoked the poetry of Jiangnan, intertwining to tell a tale of rustic beauty; costumes and props displayed the elegance of traditional opera, with colorful robes and crowns bringing the stage’s charm back to life. Teachers and students personally experienced the skills of intangible heritage, touching the pulsating heartbeat of Chinese culture in a dialogue between tradition and modernity. This cultural feast that transcended time and space not only brought intangible heritage "alive" in the present but also sowed the seeds of cultural confidence in young hearts, continuing the new chapters of a thousand-year cultural lineage.
Hanfu Experience & Folk Customs Display
Simple floral shirts, handmade cloth shoes, and blue-dyed woven bags quietly rest in between, where the woven threads embody the warmth of craftsmanship. Traditional attire and folk objects transcend language, engaging in a vivid dialogue of cultural exchange with a modern narrative of Eastern aesthetics.
Flash Mob Performance & Food Experience
As the sounds of silk and bamboo rise, the national style and folk music flow like a river, with the harmonies of the guqin and xiao drawing teachers and students to a stop; wisps of smoke curl upward, with green rice cakes wrapped in the spring colors of Jiangnan, and candied fruits threading together the sweetness of childhood. The fingertips mold soft, fragrant rice pastries, while the flavors linger on the lips, capturing the essence of the East. The traditional atmosphere ascends on campus, using music and food as a medium to create a cross-temporal cultural resonance.
