To welcome over 600 new students arriving at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) from overseas, the XJTLU Choir was invited to perform the a cappella version of the classic piece Try Everything at the Overseas Freshmen Welcome Party.

This golden hit from the animated film Zootopia was co-created and performed by musician Sia Furler. With its powerful melody and inspiring core, it has gained worldwide popularity and become a pop classic that transcends languages and cultures. In this performance, the choir adopts the a cappella style, completely stripping away the support of instrumental accompaniment and constructing a full musical hierarchy solely with human voices. The clear and penetrating soprano, the warm and grounding alto, and the rich harmonies of the tenor and bass interweave with one another. This not only restores the lively and uplifting rhythmic tension of the original song but also endows the work with a brand-new artistic expression through the "instrumentalized" sound effects simulated by human voices—such as the beat texture of percussion and the melodic lines of strings—fully demonstrating the unique charm of a cappella where "human voices are instruments".
